Comic actor Bill Fraser was the subject of a This is Your Life TV show on 21st October1981.
Tommy Cooper was amongst the guests who paid tribute to him. Here's what happened next.


Eammon Andrews: "Bill, among the many roles you've played, one of the most difficult must have been when you attempted to play straight man to a comedian. Because that comedian, happened to be the hilariously, unpredictable Tommy Cooper."


Tommy walks on to a tremendous ovation

Eammon Andrews: "Tommy I understand that you've been a great friend of our
star guest of honour for many years."

Tommy: "Oh many many many many many many many many many many many
many many years."

Eammon Andrews: "Yes."

Tommy: "I'm not wasting my time am I?"

Eammon Andrews: "No no no a good friend and an admirer?"

Tommy: "Yes as a matter of fact, yes it goes back a long long time ago, a long
long,it does it goes back oh a long long time ago."

Eammon Andrews: "A long long?"

Tommy: "A long long time ago it goes back."

Bill: "Many"

Tommy: "I've said that it goes back.... Cos' I remember the very first time he
gave me his first pair of boxing gloves, and I always treasure that because I
always, always honestly,  watched his fights. I watched all his fights I really did.
Every fight, I did, I watched all his fights. But I tell you what he's changed a lot ..
.. .................he has changed a lot, cos' the first time I met him he was black with
big lips."

Eammon Andrews: "You're thinking of Frazier with an I."

Tommy: "Well he's got an eye. He's got two eyes. You can't see both because
he's sitting on one side. Well I just cannot understand why he's still not black with
big lips."

Eammon Andrews: "What can you tell us about him?"

Tommy: "What can I tell you about him?"

Eammon Andrews: "About Bill."

Tommy: "I don't know anything about him, I've never met him."

Eammon Andrews: "How can you tell us anything about him if you've never met
him?"

Tommy: "I've never met him before."
